Update! 9-6-2012

Happy Thursdays everyone!  I wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on in my life!

It’s been a little over a week and a half now since I have returned to East Lansing.  MSU has been such an incredible experience so far.  However it really does feel like I’m living in two different worlds.  Once I arrived back on campus, it was like nothing changed since 4 months ago when I left!  I started seeing my old friends, teammates, and it was like picking up right where I left off!  I had an amazing summer with all my brothers and sisters back in Novi.  Anytime I am back at home it is like I never left.  I miss all my brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers back home.  I’m praying for you guys!  With a church family like Oak Pointe, it’s always hard to leave.  Talk about being blessed.

I’ve gotten right back into the swing of things with Athletes in Action.  AIA has been God’s greatest blessing to me during my time at MSU.  Through this ministry, I have met amazing brothers and sisters and have had the opportunity to preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth.  We had our first weekly meeting this past Tuesday and are in the process of planning for this next year.

Please pray for our leaders Phil, Julie, and Sarah as we look to do BIG things within the Spartan athletic department this year.  The best is yet to come!

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us              – Ephesians 3:20

Spiritually, the Lord has been breaking me during this season of life.  The weeks prior to coming back to school, God started to bring up old emotional wounds that had been buried deep inside my soul.  Wounds that go all the way back to my childhood.  The Lord broke me.  He brought me into a holy surrender and is sanctifying me from the inside out.  I’m beginning to experience intimacy with Jesus at a deeper level.  So painful, but so worth it.

I’m really experiencing what it means when Paul says Christ is magnified in our weaknesses,

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9

I ask the Lord, “Why now father?  I’m about to go back to school, isn’t this the last thing I need right now?”  The Spirit whispered, “The time is right Derek.  The time is now.”
The situation is complicated.  If you want to know more, I would love to share with you in more detail.  Call me or shoot me a text.

I want to encourage you all with the same message the Spirit encouraged me with:

“The time is NOW.”

Today is the most important day in your relationship with God.
Today is the time to draw into deeper intimacy with him
Don’t wait.

Life is ever too short.  I anxiously await for our future citizenship in Heaven.  As Momma Kim Giroux always says, may our response to Jesus be,

“Jesus NOW! YES Lord!”

Prayer Requests

–       Prayer for my trials and joys.  I would draw into deeper intimacy with Jesus…He is more than enough! Psalm 37:4

–       Prayer for guidance on the people God wants me to reach out to this year.  Teammates, people on my hall, etc.

–       Prayer for my training as I begin preseason workouts.  With a season of experience under my belt, I hope to contribute to the program now!  Every stride, every rep, every workout for an Audience of 1!  Colossians 3:23
